Banpresto figures, laid out like a prize hall floor

What a Banpresto prize figure is

A Banpresto figure starts life as a crane-game prize. The cabinet sets the ceiling on what the piece may cost and the factory works to that ceiling, which is why a Banpresto figure is the cheapest honest way to put an anime character on a shelf. Outside Japan the cabinets are rare, so the same runs reach collectors as boxed goods: same PVC sculpt, same printed box, no claw.

Banpresto has run these waves since the mid-eighties and carries the prize label of Bandai Spirits. Dragon Ball was the first licence it built whole lines around, and Dragon Ball is still the deepest shelf in the hall.

How the shelves are arranged

Shelves follow series, because that is how people shop for figures. Each shelf holds every Banpresto figure we track from one series, newest first; inside a shelf the line sorts further:

• Grandista — the tall ones, built to anchor a shelf alone
• Q Posket — short, stylised, usually a pair of colour versions
• Maximatic and Gx Materia — mid-air action with effect parts in the base
• Fluffy Puffy and Break Time — desk-sized, the cheapest way in
• Espresto and Clearise — one finishing trick each, translucent or lacquer-bright

Reading a Banpresto price

A collectable figure out of a prize line sits in a narrow band. Desk formats land lowest, mid-size action lines cluster where most of this floor lives, and the tall Grandista and Maximatic pieces top the Banpresto range while still coming in under a studio scale figure.

Two things push a collectable figure off that band: a run that closed years ago and is no longer restocked, and a reseller sitting on a current release. Prices here are read from the partner store and refreshed in place, never typed in by hand.

Keeping a figure the way it arrived

Direct sun is what ruins these. PVC holds colour in shade and badly in a window, and white goes first — hair, coats, the moulded cloud under a flying Dragon Ball pose. Prize bases clip rather than screw and the clip relaxes with heat, so lift a leaning figure off, let it cool flat, clip it back. Dust with a dry brush only: household cleaners lift the tampo printing that puts faces and insignia on a Banpresto figure, and it does not go back on.
